America: A Beacon, Not a Policeman       America: a Beacon, not an Empire

War Party Neoconservative Biographies  --Few neocons ever worked in business (or military), lived abroad, or know much about the outside world

Americans Against World Empire, Inc.  Homepage

The War Party's Neoconservative Empire Wanters most common characteristic is knowing little about the outside world and especially the Third World.  Almost all are Washington "policy wonks," meaning smart intellectuals from top universities with top grades who spent their lives in Washington, rarely speak foreign languages or ever lived overseas, except possibly for a semester in England, (more rarely, France).  Most have had no experience in business, nor served in the military, nor have children in the military, nor know much about Asia, Africa or South America.

Although "neoconservative" used to mean former leftists who had migrated to the Republican Party in Reagan times, it now encompasses all those conservatives who seek military empire or who want (or profit from) wars as their primary option. For their six main characteristics see Neoconservatives, Washington's War Party.  In fairness to them they are not just Arab-Israel  focused, as some critics argue.  Before 9/11, many (Gaffney, Kristol, Kagan) were keen for military conflict with China, that is any war would do for their interests and for their vicarious lust for violence (see Peter Viereck quote on intellectuals who lust for brute violence).

General List of Principle Leaders   --"In 1997 an influential grouping of neoconservatives, social conservatives, and military/industrial complex proponents came together to form the Project for the New American Century (PNAC)..............

Richard Perle, Evil Prince of the The War Party, ran foreign policy at the American Enterprise Institute, the broodmare nest of the War Party.   Perle is co-director of the AEI Commission on Future Defenses, a group organized to explore the use of advanced technology to increase the productivity of the armed forces. Mr. Perle is a consultant to the Secretary of Defense. He was the Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Policy and the Chairman of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization High Level Defense Group from 1981 to 1987.      see also    &,7792,777100,00.html

Paul Wolfowitz  &    &   Wolfowitz does speak foreign languages and is an immensely capable, if limited, man.

Douglas Feith, Undersecretary of Policy at the U.S. Department of Defense, a smart magna cum laude graduate of Harvard University and Georgetown's Law School.

"According to an August report in Rolling Stone, one U.S. Army colonel, a veteran of Middle East work, fluent in Arabic, was interviewed by Feith (Rumsfeld Deputy) for a possible job. During the session, Feith looked down at his résumé, “I see you speak Arabic,” Feith said. When the colonel nodded, Feith snapped, “too bad” and dismissed him. To make matters worse, the Feithians appointed their unskilled friends and relatives—Michael Fleischer (brother of Ari) and Simone Ledeen (daughter of Michael)—to prominent positions in the Coalition Provisional Authority." The Seven Habits of Highly Successful Imperialists

"Feith has long advocated a policy of peace through strength. He was an outspoken skeptic of U.S.-Soviet detente and of the Oslo, Hebron and Wye Processes on Palestinian-Israeli peace.
"Feith first entered government as a Middle East specialist on the  National Security Council (NSC) under Ronald Reagan in 1981. He transferred from the NSC Staff to Pentagon in 1982 to work as Special Counsel for Richard Perle, who was then serving as Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security..... Upon leaving the Pentagon, Feith established the Washington, DC law firm of Feith & Zell. His law firm colleague, Marc Zell, was resident in Israel. Three years later, Feith was retained as a lobbyist by the Turkish government. Among other clients, his firm represented defense corporations Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman.  Feith was also reportedly the architect of the occupation plans for Iraq including that of dismissing the whole Iraqi civil service and military, see  All Roads Lead to Feith and After Libby, All Roads Lead to Feith.  See also Dual Disloyalty: Feith and the Occupations of Gaza and Iraq--- Feith's key role in Iraq occupation decisions and Pentagon's Feith Again at Center of Disaster

"Various newspaper stories and books have asserted that Feith was a co-author of a controversial report A Clean Break: A New Strategy for Securing the Realm [12], a set of policy recommendations for the newly elected Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyaju..." source    many details of Feith's lifetime of hard line pro-Likud anti-peace Isreal Firster policies

Frank Gaffney, Jr. , founder of the Center for Security Policy, supported by Defense Industry, Gaffney was an official in the Reagan Defense Department.  A graduate of Georgetown's School of Foreign Service, typical lifetime Washington policy wonk, no business or military experience, big supporter of and ties to Israel Likud In urging war on Iraq he used to argue, "the only thing they understand in the Middle East is force." Hard worker with a very influential think tank, one of most effective spokesmen of the War Party; before 9/11 he was warning that China was the great new enemy of America and urging military confrontation. For him any war will do.

David Wurmser  Another Ph.D of the network of academics at American Enterprise Institute.  He was the principle author (according to Douglas Feith) of the key paper urging repeal (undermining) of the Oslo Peace Agreement (See A New Strategy for Securing the Realm) and re-occupation and new settlements on the West Bank which started all the chaos.  An "Israel Firster," key advisor to Cheney with policies which helped wreck Iraq and then to John Bolton. Long time instigator for invading and wrecking Iraq  Wikipedia bio .  An article in the American Prospect, “The Apprentice,” indicates that wrecking Iraq as a nation state was intentional. According to the article, David Wurmser, [urged] in 1997: that if Saddam Hussein were driven from power, Iraq would be “ripped apart by the politics of warlords, tribes, clans, sects, and key families,” and out of the “coming chaos in Iraq and most probably in Syria,” the United States and her principal allies, namely Israel and Jordan, could redraw the region’s map.

David Addington  replaced Lewis Libby as main deputy to Cheney --see Cheney's Guy  "He's barely known outside Washington's corridors of power, but David Addington is the most powerful man you've never heard of. Here's why:US NEWS  write up.

Midge Decter Google Search shows 742 links for Midge Decter NeoconservativeIn April, 2004 she denied to a large conservative audience that she (nor any member of her family) was ever a Neoconservative.  An interesting claim showing the general discredit of the word.  However, her hustand Norman Podhoretz, is Editor of COMMENTARY, the main organ of neoconservatism.

Fred Barnes -- one of the most effective promoters of wars on Fox News, the Wall Street Journal and the Weekly Standard his biography on wikipedia shows no foreign experience or education, least of all in the 3rd World.  He's a typical Washington newsman.

Joshua Muravchik   Advisory Board with JINSA, a major Likudnik/ settler promoter, part of AEI Neocons, typical with strong academic background, no hands on experience in outside world

Michael Ledeen  American Enterprise Institute.    Ledeen is one of the most sophisticated of the War Party wonks, he speaks French and spends time in France.  A lifetime Washington policy expert, typically with little knowledge of the 3rd World until he served on short Washington missions to visit overseas nations.  An analysis of Ledeen's writings by Ron Paul shows his adoration of empire and state power

John Bolton   was a Phi Beta Kappa from Yale, brilliant Wall Street Lawyer, who then served as General Counsel for the Agency for International Development under Reagan.  Afterwards he became Vice President of American Enterprise Institute, the nest of Neo-cons who became, and now lead, the WAR PARTY.  He had little prior experience of the world, becoming another empire wanting  chicken hawk. An article in INSIGHT described his beliefs----"John Bolton, former U.S. assistant secretary of state for international organizations, says, "It is a big mistake for us to grant any validity to international law even when it may seem in our short-term interest to do so -- because, over the long term, the goal of those who think that international law really means anything are those who want to constrict the United States."  See John Bolton & U.S. Lawlessness  &  The Bolton File

Elliot Abrams --new Director of Middle Eastern affairs on the National Security Council.  He has now replaced professional CIA and State Dept. assistants with follow neo-cons as his staff assistants.   His appointments belie President Bush statements that he will work for Palestinian peace after the war with Iraw. --   See also

Clifford May  -- long list of neoconservative affiliations, close to Frank Gaffney, Michael Ledeen.  He actually studied in Moscow and speaks some Russian, a little more outside world knowledge then most neocons, more journalist than think tank, academic background, close to Likud

Lewis Libby, Vice President Cheney’s Chief of Staff and Assistant to the Vice President for National Security Affairs.  Libby is another of the smart "policy wonks" Chicken Hawks with a lifetime career in Washington and little knowledge of the outside world, other than that gained on official missions.

Mr. Libby first entered government service with the United States Department of State in 1981 as a member of the Policy Planning Staff in the Office of the Secretary. He also served in the United States Department of State as Director of Special Projects in the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs from 1982 to 1985. Mr. Libby also served as the Legal Adviser to the U.S. House of Representatives’ Select Committee on U.S. National Security and Military/Commercial Concerns with the Peoples' Republic of China, commonly known as the “Cox Committee.”

During the George H. W. Bush administration, Mr. Libby served in the United States Department of Defense as Principal Deputy Under Secretary (Strategy and Resources), and later was confirmed by the U.S. Senate as Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Policy.

Prior to joining the current administration, Mr. Libby served as the Managing Partner of the Washington office of the international law firm of Dechert, Price & Rhoads. He was a member of the firm’s litigation department and chaired the Washington office’s Public Policy Practice Group.

Mr. Libby graduated magna cum laude from Yale University in 1972, and earned a law degree from Columbia University in 1975. He is a member of the American Bar Association Standing Committee on Law and National Security, and serves on the Advisory Board of the Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies of the RAND Corporation. Mr. Libby is the author of a novel, The Apprentice, published in 1996.

Kenneth Adelman,  Right Web, was the one who said that war with Iraq would be a "cakewalk."  Another brilliant Washington policy wonk, but with a wider range of knowledge and interests, e.g. Shakespeare and Washingtonian editor, than most.  Also a Reagan Administration official, Arms Control Agency.  Again with little business experience and never in military, part of Neocon-Likud network, long time hawk.

Michael Rubin  another AEI intellectual, Yale University, lifetime in academia and Washington See He reportedly speaks Arabic and Persian which makes his a very rare exception.
